AS16701 — AS16701 - AGENCIA DE RECAUDACION Y CONTROL ADUANERO (ARCA)

AS16701 announces 2 IPv4 prefixes covering 512 addresses and 2 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

Two addresses answer, and they name two different agencies under the same government suffix.

What it's used for

• A revenue and customs agency's network. Two IPv4 prefixes and two IPv6 prefixes announced from Argentina, five hundred and twelve addresses, through four observed BGP neighbours.

Notable

• The holder line carries the agency's full name with its four-letter short form in brackets. The AS handle repeats it with the brackets stripped and the words left in place.
• The registrant spells the same name with an accent that neither the holder line nor the handle keeps.
• Both netnames are address ranges written as two addresses with a hyphen between them, each covering exactly its own block and nothing more.
• Two of six queried addresses answered. One is a mail service on the agency's own short-form domain.
• The other is a web services host, with three letters for customs appended, on a different agency's domain under the same government suffix.

Interesting

• Two agency domains answering on one block is a renamed body still serving its old name. Reverse zones outlast reorganisations because changing one breaks whatever was configured against it.
• A netname that matches its block exactly, rather than naming a wider parent range, is the tidier form of this regional convention. It is still a restatement of the prefix, but at least an accurate one.
• A mail service and a web services endpoint on five hundred addresses is a small and chosen public face.
