About this network

UW-MILWAUKEE-AS1 is the autonomous system of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wisconsin's largest public research university outside Madison.

What it's used for

• Campus networking for UWM: academic departments, research groups, administrative systems, student residences and public-facing university services.
• The AS announces the university's 129.89.0.0/16 legacy Class B along with a couple of smaller blocks and an IPv6 prefix.

Notable

• Reverse DNS across the space resolves under uwm.edu, confirming an institutional campus network rather than a commercial provider.
• A Class B allocation plus a low AS number is the standard fingerprint of a US university that connected in the early days of the academic internet, when address space was handed out generously to institutions.
