About this network

DS6488-0 is registered to AMUG, the Arizona Macintosh Users Group — a nonprofit Macintosh user group founded in 1984 — with its network administered out of Tempe, Arizona.

What it's used for

• Announces two /24s: AMUG's own 204.62.193.0/24 and a block registered to CompBid, Inc.
• The address space carries the group's own site (amug.org) alongside a small local hosting operation; reverse DNS across the network points at phxhosting.net.

Notable

• User-group ASNs are a rarity. AMUG's registration dates to the mid-1990s, when volunteer computer clubs commonly ran real internet infrastructure — bulletin boards, FTP mirrors and shareware archives — and needed portable address space to do it.
• AMUG was widely known in the Mac world for its shareware and public-domain software collections, including an Info-Mac archive mirror and the CD/DVD-distributed AMUG collections.

Interesting

• The organisation still exists as a user group, but the network today looks less like a club and more like a small Phoenix-area hosting provider that keeps the group's legacy address space in service.
