About this network

NATGEOGRAPH-AS — the National Geographic Society, the nonprofit scientific and educational organisation headquartered on 17th Street NW in Washington, DC.

What it's used for

• Corporate networking for the Society's own headquarters and operations. It announces a single /23 (104.192.166.0/23), assigned to the Society by ARIN, reaching the internet through two large transit carriers.
• This is an organisation's own network, not a hosting or content-delivery platform: National Geographic's public web properties are served from elsewhere.

Notable

• The ASN record dates to April 1996, in the sequential run of ARIN assignments covering the mid-6400s — the Society was an early institutional adopter.
• The Society is distinct from the National Geographic media and television businesses, whose ownership has changed hands; this AS belongs to the nonprofit Society itself.
