AS5586 — MCI-INT

AS5586 announces 2 IPv4 prefixes covering 512 addresses and 1 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

MCI-INT is registered to Verizon UK Limited. The handle stands for MCI International: this is a legacy MCI network identity that passed to Verizon when Verizon acquired MCI/WorldCom, and it has been kept on rather than retired.

What it's used for

• Enterprise networking under Verizon's UK entity. The announced footprint is small (a couple of /24s), so this reads as a residual carrier AS rather than a main backbone.

Notable

• MCI was one of the defining names of the commercial internet's first decade, and handles like this one are the pieces of it still visible in the routing table.
• Verizon's real transit and enterprise scale sits in other, much larger AS numbers. A near-empty legacy AS like this is best read as an inherited registration that still has a job, not as a significant network in its own right.
