About this network

ThaiSarn (THAISARN-TH-AS-AP), the Thai Social/Scientific, Academic and Research Network — Thailand's academic and research networking effort.

What it's used for

• Connecting Thai universities, research institutes, and government research bodies to each other and to the wider internet.
• About 8,700 IPv4 addresses supporting research and education traffic rather than consumer subscribers.

Notable

• This is an institutional network: addresses map to campuses, labs, and research facilities, so traffic is academic rather than residential.
• ThaiSarn was one of the earliest organised internet efforts in Thailand and is associated with NECTEC, the country's national electronics and computer technology centre.

Interesting

• Its low AS number reflects how early Thailand's research community got onto the internet relative to the country's commercial providers — the academic network came first, and consumer ISPs followed.
