AS3629 — NYSERNET-BLK

Network type: education

AS3629 announces 1 IPv4 prefixes covering 1,024 addresses and 1 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

One of a block of autonomous system numbers (NYSERNET-BLK) held by NYSERNet, the New York State research and education network.

What it's used for

• Carrying a slice of NYSERNet's 199.109.0.0 address space, alongside IPv6.
• NYSERNet connects universities, colleges, research institutes, libraries, and schools across New York State to each other and to the wider research internet.

Notable

• Research-and-education space. Addresses under NYSERNet belong to member institutions rather than to consumers or hosting customers.
• NYSERNet holds a run of adjacent AS numbers rather than a single one — see AS3630, its immediate neighbour, registered the same day.

Interesting

• NYSERNet is one of the original NSFNET-era regional networks: the intermediaries that stitched campuses into the early internet before commercial transit existed. Its low AS numbers date from that lineage.
