About this network

The network of the Universidad de los Andes (Uniandes), a private research university in Bogotá, Colombia. It announces the legacy 157.253.0.0/16 block long associated with the university.

What it's used for

• Campus networking in Bogotá: teaching, research, labs, libraries, and administrative systems.
• University-hosted services and academic connectivity for students and staff.

Notable

• Institutional address space — a full /16 held by a single university, which is generous by modern standards and typical of allocations made before IPv4 scarcity set in.
• Hosts behind it are campus machines and university users, not broadband subscribers or hosting customers.

Interesting

• Colombian universities were among the country's earliest internet participants, and the resources are now administered through LACNIC, the Latin American and Caribbean registry, which inherited the region's early ARIN-era allocations.
