About this network

The network of the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC-AS) in Kihei, Hawaii — an Air Force Research Laboratory centre and one of the Department of Defense's Supercomputing Resource Centers (DSRCs).

What it's used for

• Supporting DoD high-performance computing: MHPCC is part of the DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program, providing supercomputing capacity to the defense research, development, test, and evaluation community.
• Networking for the centre's staff, systems, and research collaborations.

Notable

• A government/military research address, operated under contract to AFRL rather than as a civilian academic network.
• MHPCC sits alongside the Maui Space Surveillance Complex on Haleakalā, tying its computing work to space situational awareness and directed-energy research.

Interesting

• The ASN was registered in 1994, shortly after the centre was established — a supercomputing site that has been on the internet essentially since it opened.
