AS16365 — COMMERZBANK DE-60261 Frankfurt

AS16365 announces 3 IPv4 prefixes covering 21,504 addresses and 1 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

Five of seven blocks are held by an investment bank that no longer exists under its own name.

What it's used for

• A bank's network. Fifteen prefixes announced from Germany, eight of them IPv6, twenty-one thousand five hundred and four addresses, through three observed BGP neighbours.

Notable

• The AS handle is the bank's name, a country code, a postcode and a city, so the routing label doubles as a postal address.
• Two blocks carry the bank's own netnames, one with a country code and a full date, one with neither, and both list four contacts: an administrative role, a technical role, the company under its full legal form, and an abuse role.
• The other five share a netname made of the bank's name and three letters for a city. They are registered to a hostmaster whose label is four initials belonging to a different institution.
• That acquired institution's abbreviation appears nowhere else in the record. Only the abuse role, named after the current owner, ties those five blocks back to the holder.
• Eighteen addresses were queried for reverse DNS and none returned a name.

Interesting

• A bank with twenty thousand addresses and nothing at all in reverse DNS has made a choice. Every address here points inward, and none of it is meant to be resolved by a stranger.
• Five blocks named after a foreign office and held under an acquired brand is the network shape of a merger. The addresses moved, the routing moved, and the registry entry stayed where it was.
