AS16364 — SONY-DADC

AS16364 announces 3 IPv4 prefixes covering 2,560 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

Three blocks, three netname conventions, and one of them jams the brand and a legal form into nineteen letters.

What it's used for

• A manufacturer's network. Three IPv4 prefixes announced from Austria, no IPv6, two thousand five hundred and sixty addresses, through two observed BGP neighbours.

Notable

• One netname is a country code, then the brand, a country name and a legal form run together without separators, then a full date. It names a national entity that the holder field does not.
• The second netname is the brand alone, no country code, no date, no suffix.
• The third is the brand and the word for a network, which the second did not think it needed.
• All three blocks are registered to the same company with the same administrators, so the three conventions describe one owner filling in one form three times.
• The administrators' label puts a space after the brand and hyphens through the rest, mixing both separators in one string.
• One of nine queried addresses answered: three letters, then a two-letter country label that is not the one these blocks are announced from, then the company's domain.

Interesting

• The netname on the newest block is the longest and the most specific, which is the opposite of how these things usually go. Someone decided the bare brand was ambiguous and overcorrected.
• A hostname carrying a country label from elsewhere is the tell that the machine is named for the office that owns it rather than the rack it sits in.
