AS16071 — GRPLEG

AS16071 announces 2 IPv4 prefixes covering 1,280 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

The registrant is the company's internal IT department, listed by its initials.

What it's used for

• An electrical equipment manufacturer's network. Two IPv4 prefixes announced from France, no IPv6, one thousand two hundred and eighty addresses, through a single observed BGP neighbour.

Notable

• The AS handle is six letters: three for a corporate group and three for the brand, with the group part first, so the name reads backwards from how the company writes it.
• Both netnames are the country code, that same six-letter contraction, and one identical date, so both blocks were registered on the same day.
• The first registrant on both is the company's information systems department under its three-letter local abbreviation, ahead of the company itself.
• There is no separate abuse contact on either block.
• Six addresses were queried for reverse DNS and none returned a name.

Interesting

• An internal department listed ahead of the company is a good indicator of who actually holds the addresses inside a large organisation. The legal entity signs the contract; the department answers the mail.
• Manufacturers of physical products keep small public networks and large private ones. Twelve hundred addresses is enough for a website, mail and a handful of services, and everything that matters to the business runs where this record cannot see it.
