AS16026 announces 2 IPv4 prefixes covering 768 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

One block's netname says only that the registry manages it, and its registrant is the word unknown.

What it's used for

• An oil and gas company's network. Two IPv4 prefixes announced from Romania, no IPv6, seven hundred and sixty-eight addresses, across two observed BGP neighbours.

Notable

• The larger block's netname is the registry's own placeholder, five words saying that the registry manages the address block, and its registrant field contains the word for not known.
• The smaller block is named after the company and registered to an abuse role belonging to a national research institute acting as the local internet registry.
• Neither block lists the company itself as a contact, though the routing record names it as holder.
• The AS handle is the brand, the word for a network, then a street name, a house number written with the local abbreviation, and a city district.
• Six addresses were queried for reverse DNS and none returned a name.

Interesting

• A registry-managed placeholder usually means the block's original assignment records were lost or never transferred, and the registry took custody of the entry rather than deleting it. The addresses keep working; the paperwork underneath is a stub.
• A research institute holding the registry membership is how many countries first got address space. The academic network was there first, so commercial organisations received their blocks through it and the arrangement outlived the reason for it.
