AS15916 — Former Fortis Bank Woerden, Netherlands

AS15916 announces 1 IPv4 prefixes covering 65,536 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

The AS handle begins with the word "Former" and names a bank that no longer exists, plus its town.

What it's used for

• A bank's network. Nineteen IPv4 prefixes announced from the Netherlands, no IPv6, sixty-five thousand five hundred and thirty-six addresses, across two observed BGP neighbours.

Notable

• The handle is a sentence rather than an identifier: the word for something that used to be, a vanished bank's name, a town, and a comma before the country.
• Every one of the nineteen prefixes sits inside the same /17, which is also announced whole, so the network advertises one range and eighteen pieces of it at the same time.
• The pieces run from a /19 down to a /24 and cover only part of the range, so the split follows something internal rather than a plan to cover everything.
• One block's registry lookup failed, so its details are unknown rather than absent.
• Every readable block carries the same netname and the same two contacts, the second an abbreviation followed by the word for infrastructure.
• Eighteen addresses were queried for reverse DNS and none returned a name.

Interesting

• Announcing a range and its pieces together lets each piece take a different path while the whole keeps working if a piece is withdrawn. For a bank spanning many sites on one range, that is how traffic gets pinned to the right data centre.
• A handle recording an acquisition is the most honest field in the record, and the only one anyone updated.
