AS15818 — LATVIJASGAZE-AS

AS15818 announces 1 IPv4 prefixes covering 256 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

The handle names a gas company, the netname names its distribution arm in lower case, and the only contact is a mobile operator.

What it's used for

• A gas utility's network. One IPv4 /24 announced from Latvia, no IPv6, two hundred and fifty-six addresses, through a single observed BGP neighbour.

Notable

• The AS handle is the utility's name run together with the two letters for an autonomous system.
• The block's netname is a different, shorter brand joined to the word for a network, written entirely in lower case where nearly every netname in this range is capitalised.
• The only registrant listed is the network operations centre of a mobile operator, with no object for the gas company at all.
• Two hundred and fifty-six addresses are announced as one route, the smallest that can be.
• The routing archive has carried this number since the earliest data it holds.
• Three addresses were queried for reverse DNS and none returned a name.

Interesting

• Energy companies across this region were split by law into a supplier and a network operator, and the netname is where that split shows up: the addresses now carry the distribution company's brand while the routing still carries the parent's.
• A telecoms operator as the sole contact means the utility never ran this itself. The gas company owns a number and a block; somebody else answers for both.
