AS15342 — DDPMI-1

AS15342 announces 1 IPv4 prefixes covering 1,024 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

The one answering address is a nameserver, and the netname matches nothing in the company's name.

What it's used for

• A dental insurer's network. A single IPv4 /22 announced from the United States, no IPv6, and three observed BGP neighbours.

Notable

• The netname is six letters that share nothing with the registrant, the AS handle or the company's domain, so its meaning is lost outside whoever typed it.
• The single answering address names itself as a nameserver, with the company initials, a site code and a counter before the corporate domain.
• The AS handle is the company's four initials with a counter.
• Three addresses were queried for reverse DNS and one returned a name.
• One thousand and twenty-four addresses behind three upstreams.

Interesting

• Naming a nameserver in reverse DNS is ordinary and still worth noting: it identifies a machine whose job is to answer queries from anyone, and the counter says there is at least one more.
• Three upstreams for one block is a lot of redundancy for an insurer's public edge, which suggests claims traffic that cannot pause while a provider is repaired.
• A netname nobody can decode is the most common kind of registry entry in this range. It was meaningful to one person on one day, and it will outlive the reason.
