AS15285 — SRLCD

AS15285 announces 2 IPv4 prefixes covering 512 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

Two blocks, two carriers, two companies, and a handle built from the initials of both.

What it's used for

• A cash handling and cash machine services company's network. Two IPv4 /24 prefixes announced from the United States, no IPv6, and two observed BGP neighbours.

Notable

• The two blocks are registered to two different companies, both recorded entirely in capitals.
• The AS handle is five letters that read as the initials of both company names run together.
• Every sampled address answered, under two carriers with opposite conventions: one writes the address with single digits and adds a site code and the words dedicated and static, the other zero pads every octet and marks the block as business service.
• One netname packs a site code, an abbreviation of the company, the carrier's name and a type word into a single label.
• Six addresses were queried for reverse DNS and six returned a name.

Interesting

• Two carriers is the point of holding an AS number at this size. Five hundred and twelve addresses do not need it; staying reachable when one carrier fails does.
• Both carriers publish names that identify the connection as a static business line. For a company whose addresses reach cash machines, that is a signal worth thinking about, since it marks which addresses are fixed endpoints rather than transient ones.
• Zero padded octets sort correctly as text, which is why one carrier writes them that way and the other does not.
