AS14766 — UKMAGDIA-BT-LUM

AS14766 announces 1 IPv4 prefixes covering 256 addresses and 1 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

The registrant field carries a job title with an extra syllable in it.

What it's used for

• An investment firm's network. 256 IPv4 addresses in a single prefix alongside an IPv6 /48, with one observed BGP neighbour.

Notable

• The registrant is the company followed by a role, and that role is spelled Admininstrator.
• The AS handle is UKMAGDIA-BT-LUM, which pairs a country code and a company fragment with two carrier abbreviations.
• The IPv4 block is 74.113.148.0/24, carrying the netname MAGNETAR22-1.
• The IPv6 block is 2620:7d:2::/48.

Interesting

• Registry fields are typed once and read for decades, and nothing checks the spelling. A misspelled job title is a small thing, but it dates the entry to a single keystroke by a single person and proves the field has not been revisited since.
• The handle reads as a circuit label rather than an organisation name: a country, a site abbreviation, and the two carriers terminating there. Whoever filed it was describing a link, and the registry kept it as the network's public identifier.
• Both blocks are announced from the United States even though the handle opens with a different country's code, which fits a firm with offices on both sides of a leased line.
• One upstream on a trading firm's network is the fact most worth knowing here.
