AS14588 announces 1 IPv4 prefixes covering 1,024 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

Two fields name a country the block is not registered in.

What it's used for

• A games publisher's studio network. 1,024 addresses in a single IPv4 prefix, with one observed BGP neighbour and no IPv6 announced.

Notable

• The AS handle is ATVI-BEENOX-CAN, naming the parent's stock abbreviation, a studio and a country.
• The netname on 104.219.116.0/22 is ATVI-CANADA, and the registrant is the parent publisher.
• The block itself is registered in the region covering the United States.
• Three addresses were queried for reverse DNS and none returned a name.

Interesting

• A studio in one country using address space registered in another is ordinary for a group that files its paperwork centrally. The names in the record preserve where the network is, which the registry's own country field does not.
• Using a stock ticker as the leading part of a handle is a habit of large groups with many subsidiaries. It survives rebranding, it is short, and it identifies the parent unambiguously, which matters when one company holds dozens of studios.
• Game development sends enormous builds between studios and to publishing systems, and this is the kind of network that carries them. A single upstream is thin for that, unless the heavy traffic moves over private links the collector cannot see.
• Nothing published in reverse DNS keeps an unreleased title's build infrastructure from being mapped, which for this industry is a real concern rather than a theoretical one.
