AS14509 — AMCINET

AS14509 announces 2 IPv4 prefixes covering 768 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

Two blocks from opposite ends of the same range, fifteen steps apart.

What it's used for

• A cinema chain's network. 768 addresses across two IPv4 prefixes, with two observed BGP neighbours and no IPv6 announced.

Notable

• 169.224.240.0/23 and 169.224.255.0/24 sit in the same larger range but far apart within it.
• Both carry the netname AMC-THEATRES, matching the registrant exactly.
• The AS handle is AMCINET, which appends a word neither the netname nor the AS name uses.
• Six addresses were queried for reverse DNS and none returned a name.

Interesting

• The gap between the two announcements is the interesting part. Whoever laid this out took the very top of the range for one purpose and a block further down for another, leaving room in between. That is what a numbering plan looks like when someone expected to grow into it, and the space between them is either unrouted or used internally.
• A cinema chain is a network of hundreds of buildings, each with ticketing, projection scheduling and payment terminals that must reach a central system. Almost none of that needs a public address, which is why the announced footprint is this small.
• The handle adding a word the other records omit is the sort of difference nobody notices until they search the registry for one string and miss the other.
• Nothing published in reverse DNS and two upstreams describes a network built for its own use rather than for anyone to find.
