AS14423 — NOVAC-AS

AS14423 announces 1 IPv4 prefixes covering 256 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

The netname packs a carrier, a city and a squeezed company name into three groups.

What it's used for

• An insurance company's network. 256 addresses in a single IPv4 prefix, with one observed BGP neighbour and no IPv6 announced.

Notable

• The whole footprint is 24.75.43.0/24, carrying the netname TELCOVE-BFLO-NVACSC and registered to the insurer.
• The first group is a carrier brand, the second a four-letter city abbreviation, the third the company's name with its vowels removed.
• The AS handle is NOVAC-AS, a different contraction of the same name.
• Three addresses were queried for reverse DNS and none returned a name.

Interesting

• Three fields of compression in one string, each using a different scheme: a brand kept whole, a city cut to consonants, a company cut to consonants differently. Somebody had a character limit and spent it carefully, and the result records who sold the circuit, where it landed and who bought it.
• The carrier brand disappeared into a larger company years ago, so the netname preserves an operator that no longer trades while the registrant stays current.
• The AS handle contracts the insurer's name in a way that does not match the netname's contraction, which means the two entries were written by different people or at different times.
• One upstream and no IPv6 for an insurer's routed presence.
