AS14305 announces 1 IPv4 prefixes covering 256 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

The block's label still carries the acquired company's name, cut to seven characters.

What it's used for

• A medical device company's network. 256 addresses in a single IPv4 prefix, with one observed BGP neighbour and no IPv6 announced.

Notable

• The whole footprint is 216.165.167.0/24, carrying the netname MDSNWI-TOMOTHE-TDSNET-NETBLK.
• That netname holds four groups: a locality code, a company name truncated mid-word, the carrier's network and a word meaning block.
• The registrant is the truncated company written out in full, and neither name matches the holder record.
• Three addresses were queried for reverse DNS and three returned names, all carrying the same locality code.

Interesting

• The truncation is what dates the record. A fixed-width field cut the second name off mid-word when the block was assigned, and the assignment has outlived both the field and the company, so the label preserves a name that stopped being used.
• Two different companies are named across the fields and a third string is the carrier, which means three lookups to establish who is actually here.
• The published names repeat the locality code from the netname and mark the addresses as fixed, so the carrier's filing system and its host naming agree with each other and with nothing else.
• One upstream for a company whose products are installed inside hospitals.
