AS13892 — BIPERFORMANCE-ASN

AS13892 announces 3 IPv4 prefixes covering 1,024 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

Four consecutive blocks announced as three prefixes, starting one step past the boundary that would have made them one.

What it's used for

• A corporate network. 1,024 addresses across three IPv4 prefixes, two observed BGP neighbours, and no IPv6 announced.

Notable

• The prefixes are 198.246.149.0/24, 198.246.150.0/23 and 198.246.152.0/24.
• Together they cover four consecutive blocks with nothing missing between them.
• All three are netname BI-NET, registered to BI.
• The registrant name is two letters; the AS handle is BIPERFORMANCE-ASN.
• Nine addresses were queried for reverse DNS and none returned a name.

Interesting

• A run of four blocks can be announced as one prefix only when it starts at a multiple of four. This run starts one past that point, so it straddles the boundary and no single announcement can cover it. The result is three routes where the address count suggests one, and the cause is which block happened to be free on the day the space was assigned.
• A two-letter registrant is close to the shortest name the registry will hold. Searching for it returns everything, which makes the record hard to find by the name it is filed under and easy to find by the address it describes.
• The handle spells the company out and the registry entry abbreviates it, so neither leads to the other by text alone.
