AS13283 — BJB1-AS

AS13283 announces 1 IPv4 prefixes covering 65,536 addresses and 1 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

A private bank holding an entire legacy /16 and announcing it as one route.

What it's used for

• The network of a Swiss private bank. 65,536 addresses in the single prefix 159.103.0.0/16, one IPv6 prefix 2a06:d581:1000::/36, and three observed BGP neighbours.

Notable

• The netname is BAERNET, with no country prefix and no date.
• The registry holder ends in AG while the registrant on the block ends in Ltd.
• One IPv4 prefix, one IPv6 prefix, three neighbours.

Interesting

• A whole /16 is space from the era when allocations were sized by the class of the address rather than by need, and a bank that asked for room got sixty-five thousand addresses. It has never been split, which is why the routing table carries one entry for all of it instead of a dozen.
• BAERNET has no date and no country code, which puts it among the oldest naming style in this range: a name that is just a name. Blocks allocated later in this same range carry country prefixes and eight-digit dates because the convention hardened after this one was written.
• The legal suffix changes between the holder record and the block record. Both describe the same bank, and the difference is what happens when two entries are created years apart by people copying from different letterheads.
• The IPv6 block is a /36, a fraction of what a provider would take, which fits a network with one organisation behind it rather than customers.
