About this network

A national airline on one /21, with its registry record unreadable at the time of collection.

What it's used for

• The network of Poland's national airline. 2,048 addresses in one IPv4 prefix, two observed BGP neighbours, and no IPv6 announced.

Notable

• The whole inventory is 193.227.216.0/21.
• The registry lookup for that block failed, so nothing here describes its record.
• The AS handle is the airline's full legal name rather than a short label.
• First observed in the routing archive in August 2000.
• Three addresses were sampled and none returned a name.

Interesting

• Airlines were among the earliest large private networks, because seat reservations had to be queried in real time from thousands of agencies decades before anyone else needed that. The systems that resulted are largely not on the public internet, which is why a national carrier appears here as 2,048 addresses and two neighbours.
• The handle holds the company's registered name including its legal form, long enough to break tools expecting a short identifier. Several handles in this range read the same way, all from the same misreading of a field that wanted an abbreviation.
• The 193.227 range dates from the mid-1990s allocations, so this block was almost certainly obtained when the airline first connected rather than acquired later. A /21 has stayed sufficient for twenty-five years, which says the network never grew outward and everything added since went behind it.
• Two neighbours, nothing answering to a name, and one unbroken block. There is very little here to see, which is itself the finding.
