AS12965 — SEBBANKA

AS12965 announces 1 IPv4 prefixes covering 512 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

A bank whose registered name begins with the letters AS, meaning something else entirely.

What it's used for

• The network of a Latvian bank. 512 addresses in one IPv4 prefix, a single observed BGP neighbour, and no IPv6 announced.

Notable

• The whole inventory is 193.178.150.0/23, netname SEBbanka in mixed case.
• The registrant is recorded as AS "SEB banka", with the quotation marks preserved.
• First observed in the routing archive in August 2000.
• Three addresses were sampled and none returned a name.

Interesting

• The registrant name starts with AS, which here abbreviates the Latvian term for a joint-stock company and has nothing to do with autonomous systems. Anyone reading registry data across countries meets this constantly: the same two letters mean a company form in the Baltics and Scandinavia, and a routing identifier everywhere in this dataset. Automated parsing gets it wrong in both directions.
• The quotation marks around the name are part of the legal entity as registered and have survived every system that has handled the record since. Registries store what they are given, and punctuation that means something in a national company register becomes noise once it reaches the routing world.
• A /23 announced by a bank through a single neighbour, with nothing answering to a name. That combination has appeared repeatedly across this range regardless of country, which makes it something close to a signature: financial institutions run small, quiet, singly connected networks whose visible surface tells you nothing about their size.
