AS12807 — OAB

AS12807 announces 3 IPv4 prefixes covering 3,584 addresses and 1 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

A carrier's business arm on three small blocks, under a handle nobody would recognise.

What it's used for

• Part of a French carrier's business-services network. 3,584 addresses across three IPv4 prefixes, one IPv6 prefix, and two observed BGP neighbours.

Notable

• The inventory is 94.124.128.0/21, 185.63.192.0/22 and 193.33.36.0/23, plus 2a01:9940:100::/47 in IPv6.
• Netnames are FR-OBS-OLM-20080805, FR-OBS-OLM-20140714 and FR-CVF-1.
• The AS handle is OAB; the registered holder is Orange Business Services SA.
• Nine addresses were sampled and none returned a name.

Interesting

• Large carriers run dozens of autonomous systems, and the small ones are usually a specific product or a specific acquisition rather than a slice of the backbone. Two neighbours and 3,584 addresses says this AS sits behind the group's own network, not out at its edge.
• OBS-OLM and CVF-1 are internal labels: a service line and a project, neither meaningful outside the company. Netnames are the closest thing the public registry has to an organisational chart, and in a group this size they are the only visible structure.
• A /47 is an odd IPv6 size. It does not fall on a 4-bit boundary, so its reverse zone cannot be delegated in a single piece — which is a small, permanent inconvenience taken on in exchange for handing out exactly the amount of space a service needed.
