AS12785 — SI-ZVD

AS12785 announces 1 IPv4 prefixes covering 256 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

A single /24 and an AS number, held by an occupational safety institute.

What it's used for

• Networking for a Slovenian occupational-safety organisation. 256 addresses in one IPv4 prefix, one observed BGP neighbour, and no IPv6 announced.

Notable

• The entire inventory is 91.223.230.0/24.
• The RDAP record for that block could not be retrieved, so its registration was not read.
• The AS handle is SI-ZVD; the registered holder is ZVD Zavod za varstvo pri delu d.d.
• Three sampled addresses were queried and none returned a name.

Interesting

• 256 addresses is the smallest block the global routing table will normally accept, and this organisation runs an autonomous system for exactly one of them. The threshold matters: a prefix longer than a /24 is filtered by most operators, so /24 is the floor for anyone who wants to be independently routable at all.
• An institute in this line of work holds registers, certifications and measurement records that employers have to reach, which is the usual reason a non-technical organisation ends up with its own AS number. The alternative is depending on a provider's addresses and renumbering every time the contract changes.
• 91.223 is late European allocation space, handed out in /24 and /22 pieces when the large blocks were gone. The size of an organisation's oldest block is a rough clock: the smaller it is, the later they arrived.
