AS12734 — FIAT-AS1 Via Plava, 86 - 10135 Torino

AS12734 announces 5 IPv4 prefixes covering 3,584 addresses and 0 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

A netname holding two carmakers at once, on blocks that answer to a third name.

What it's used for

• Corporate networking for a vehicle manufacturer. 3,584 addresses in five IPv4 prefixes, two observed BGP neighbours, and no IPv6 announced.

Notable

• All five blocks carry the netname FR-PCA-FIAT-15191, registered to Stellantis Auto SAS.
• The trailing 15191 is the first two octets of the address range, 151.91.
• Every one of fifteen sampled addresses answered, all under fiatauto.com.
• The AS handle carries a street address in Turin: Via Plava, 86 - 10135 Torino.
• The blocks are recorded against France while the AS name points at Italy.

Interesting

• Three corporate identities appear in one record. The netname pairs an abbreviation for the French group with the Italian marque, the registrant is the merged entity that now owns both, and the reverse DNS still answers with the original brand. A merger of that size touches thousands of systems, and the registry entry is one of the last places anyone thinks to look.
• Fifteen of fifteen sampled addresses resolving is the highest rate seen anywhere in this range. Large industrial networks tend to be run by people who generate reverse zones for entire blocks as a matter of course, so every address answers whether or not anything is using it.
• The country fields disagree, and both are right. Blocks are registered wherever the legal entity holding them sits, while the AS name records the office that runs the network, so the paperwork follows the corporate structure rather than the cables.
