AS12511 — CH-POSTNETZ Post CH AG

AS12511 announces 4 IPv4 prefixes covering 165,888 addresses and 2 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

The Swiss postal service holding two /16s that are one apart, with the block between them missing.

What it's used for

• Corporate connectivity for the national postal operator. 165,888 addresses in four IPv4 prefixes, two IPv6 prefixes, and one observed BGP neighbour.

Notable

• The two largest blocks are 138.189.0.0/16 and 138.191.0.0/16. 138.190.0.0/16 sits between them and is not part of this inventory.
• The rest is a /17 at 194.41.128.0 and a /21 at 84.246.232.0.
• Three of the four share the bare netname CH-POSTNETZ; only the /21 is dated, as CH-POSTNETZ-20041101.
• Every block is registered to Die Schweizerische Post AG, with Post CH AG handling abuse.
• The IPv6 announcements are a /31 and a /32.

Interesting

• Two /16s with a gap is the tell that these were assigned individually rather than as one larger allocation later divided. A single grant of that size would have been contiguous; 138.190 going elsewhere means the post office asked twice and took what was free.
• POSTNETZ is simply the post network, and the naming is as plain as the institution. Three undated netnames alongside one dated 20041101 shows the convention arriving mid-inventory — the older records were written before the registry started stamping the application date into the name, and nobody went back to retrofit them.
• 165,888 addresses reached through a single neighbour is a large private network, not a service provider. The address count reflects an organisation with offices in every town.
