AS12372 — Cubic-Telecom Cubic Telecom Limited

AS12372 announces 4 IPv4 prefixes covering 1,792 addresses and 6 IPv6 prefixes.

About this network

An Irish company providing global mobile connectivity for connected vehicles and industrial equipment.

What it's used for

• Machine connectivity across borders. 1,792 IPv4 addresses over four prefixes, eight IPv6 announcements, two observed BGP neighbours.

Notable

• The IPv6 side is eight separate /43s and /44s scattered through 2a0b:39c0::/32 — 1010, 1020, 1070, 1100, 1120, 1190, 11a0 and 11c0 — with large gaps between them.
• Three of the four IPv4 blocks are Cogent's, two of them named CUBIC-TELECOM-CGNT-NET-1 and -2 where CGNT marks the source.
• Only 185.114.16.0/22 is the company's own, registered as IE-CUBIC-20150820.

Interesting

• The gapped IPv6 layout is the interesting half. Announcing eight blocks with room left between them is how an operator grows each one later without renumbering, and for a business that assigns addresses per country, per manufacturer or per vehicle platform, keeping those groups apart in the address plan matters more than keeping the routing table small.
• A connected car is a roaming device that never gets a new SIM and may outlive the network it was sold with. That makes address planning a fifteen-year problem rather than a quarterly one, which is a rare constraint and shows up here as an unusually orderly IPv6 layout next to a scrap of borrowed IPv4.
