About this network

RJ-SCHINNER is RJ Schinner Co., Inc., a family-owned wholesale redistributor based in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Founded in 1951, it supplies foodservice, paper and janitorial goods to distributor partners from a couple of dozen locations across the United States. It is a distribution business, not a technology one.

What it's used for

A corporate network, and nothing more. RIS sees a single IPv4 prefix, 8.37.27.0/24 — 256 addresses, no IPv6, and 1 observed BGP neighbour. One block, one upstream. That is a company that acquired an AS number and a /24 so it could run BGP for its own site, most likely to keep addresses portable or to satisfy a hosting or failover arrangement, and then never needed anything else. Corporate mail, VPN concentrators for a distributed branch network, and whatever customer-facing systems a redistributor exposes to its partners would comfortably fit inside 256 addresses.

Notable

The /24 sits inside 8.0.0.0/8, historically Level 3 space, but ARIN registers this particular block directly to RJ Schinner Co. The legacy /8 it lives in says nothing about who holds it or where it is — inter-RIR transfers and reassignments long ago broke any link between a low /8 and its original owner. Reverse DNS returned nothing on the addresses sampled, which is a sample and not a finding; no inference about the block's use should be drawn from it either way.

Interesting

Enterprises with a single /24 and one upstream are among the most common holders in this AS range, and they are usually exactly what they appear to be.
