About this network

MGL-40-ASN is registered to Meritage Group LP, a private investment-management firm headquartered in San Francisco with additional offices on the East Coast. It manages capital across public and private equity, credit and real estate, and its roots trace back to the Renaissance Technologies orbit.

What it's used for

The routing footprint is about as small as a real, independently routed network gets. RIS observes a single announced IPv4 prefix, 192.30.150.0/24 — 256 addresses — no IPv6, and one observed neighbour. A single upstream and a single /24 is the shape of a firm that wanted portable address space and its own AS number so that it could change carriers without renumbering, rather than of anything selling connectivity.

For a roughly 50-person investment manager, a /24 is more than sufficient: it covers office egress, mail, VPN termination for staff, and the handful of publicly reachable endpoints needed to exchange data with prime brokers, custodians, fund administrators and market-data vendors. Financial firms of this size routinely carry their real workload over private circuits and extranet links to counterparties, which never show up in the public routing table — so what BGP sees is only the small public edge of a much larger private network.

Notable

The one-neighbour count means this AS is effectively single-homed at the moment of observation. Announcing your own /24 behind a single upstream is a common posture for a firm that values address portability more than path diversity.
