About this network
KIWOOM-AS-KR is the corporate autonomous system of Kiwoom Securities Co., Ltd., a Seoul-based online brokerage and one of the largest retail stock-trading houses in South Korea.
What it's used for
- Publishing the firm's own trading surface: the HTS/MTS trading platforms, order-entry gateways, market-data feeds and web front ends that retail investors connect to, plus the links out to exchanges and clearing.
Notable
Everything about the routing says enterprise, not provider. RIS observes a single announced IPv4 prefix — 210.92.16.0/24, 256 addresses — no IPv6, and 2 BGP neighbours. That is the minimum viable shape for an organisation that wants provider-independent addresses: one /24 (the smallest block the global table will generally accept) announced to two upstreams so that a single carrier outage does not take the brokerage offline. A network selling connectivity to others would need far more address space and far more peers; a carrier peers with hundreds to thousands of ASes.
Dual-homing a single /24 is a deliberate resilience choice rather than a growth one. For a broker, minutes of unreachability during market hours are a regulatory and commercial problem, so the AS exists to make the front door independent of any one ISP — not because Kiwoom needs the addresses.
Interesting
Korean financial institutions are unusually well represented in this stretch of the 16-bit ASN space: Kiwoom sits directly between AS10191 and Busan Bank at AS10193, with Kookmin Bank at AS10196 — a block of registrations from the era when Korea's banks and brokers all took their own ASNs.
